How do I choose the prayer time calculation method in the Tanzil app?

In shortGo to Settings → Prayer times → Calculations → Calculation method. Automatic follows the place you are in; or pick any method from the list.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Prayer times. In Calculations tap Calculation method.
  2. Tap Automatic at the top to follow the place you are in. It shows Now: and the method it is using.
  3. Or tap a method to use it everywhere, such as Diyanet, Muslim World League, Umm Al-Qura, Egypt, Karachi, North America (ISNA), Moonsighting Committee or a national or regional authority. Picking one turns Automatic off.
  4. Under most methods, a line lists where Automatic uses it. Used here marks the method that Automatic would pick for your current place.
  5. Set Asr calculation method (Shafi'ee or Hanafi) and Isha prayer end time (Midnight or Fajr prayer) in the same section.

Good to know

  • Automatic chooses by country, and in some countries by region (for example several Russian republics). It needs only your saved location, not an internet connection.
  • The list has dozens of methods and ends with Custom method for your own angles.
  • Asr is set from the place's authority only the first time. After that Tanzil never changes it for you. It is remembered per place, and you can change it any time.
  • High Latitude Rule is needed only far from the equator. It can say Set by the method or Not needed here, and while Automatic is on it shows the method's own rule and says to turn Automatic off to choose.
  • To go back to Automatic, open the list and tap Automatic.
